S Scale Postwar Trains
Modeled at 1:64 scale, S scale trains run on a two-rail track system with the rails .883 inches apart and are AC powered. The first trains marketed as S gauge appeared in 1946 manufactured by the A.C. Gilbert Company under the American Flyer brand name. This 2-rail track system offered greater realism, and an avid following, but it never attained the market penetration that its greatest rival Lionel did during its heyday in the 1950’s. American Flyers last models were produced in 1966 and Lionel bought the assets of the company when it ended in bankruptcy in 1967, but Lionel did not re-introduce it until 1979, which marked the beginning of the S Modern era.

On occasion, Trainz gets in large inventories of rare and valuable American Flyer S-Postwar items. To browse our S-Scale Postwar items, please click a category link below.
