O Scale Postwar Trains   Show All O Postwar Items
O Gauge is defined as 1:48 (0.25 inches to the foot) and the postwar era represents the time period from 1945 to 1969. Originally introduced by German toy manufacturer Marklin around 1900, by the 1930s three-rail alternating current O scale was the most common model railroad scale in the United States and remained so until the early 1960s. It is termed O gauge, instead of O Scale because of the 3rd track rail, and for the trains not generally made to scale, but more approximately to scale. True O Scale trains are those that run on 2 rails and use DC current. Between 1946 and 1976, the primary U.S. manufacturers of O gauge trains were Lionel and Marx with Plasticville providing the buildings for all those O gauge people to live and work. O gauge remains a popular choice for hobbyists who enjoy collecting and running trains more than they enjoy other aspects of modeling.

We frequently get in large inventories of rare and valuable O-Postwar items from Lionel, American Flyer, Plasticville, Marx, and more! To browse our O-Scale Postwar items, please click a category link below.
