HO Scale Vintage Trains
HO scale is the most popular scale of model railway in most of the world. The name is derived from the fact that its 1:87 scale is approximately half that of O scale, HO (Half of O). We divide our HO trains between vintage as being manufactured prior to 1970 or so, and modern era as those made after that point. HO scale trains first appeared in the United Kingdom in the 1930s, but were not able to make commercial headway against the already established OO gauge. However, it became very popular in the United States, where it took off in the late 1950s after interest in model railroads as toys began to decline and more emphasis began to be placed on realism in response to demand from modelers. HO has become the most popular scale due to its relative low cost, great detail, huge variety, and its size make it ideal to make fabulous layout in a relatively small space. Quality and cost run the full gambit from inexpensive starters set that can be bought for under $50 to exquisite brass models of locomotives from great manufacturers like Overland, PFM, Key Imports, Sunset Models, United Models, Westside, and others that can cost into the thousands.

On occasion, Trainz gets in large inventories of rare and valuable HO-Vintage items from Marklin, AHM, Rivarossi, Varney, Key Imports, PFM, Athearn, Tyco and more! To browse our HO-Scale Vintage items, please click a category link below.
